The School has five well-equipped laboratories, which provide abundant support for research and teaching activities:
Laboratory of Behavior and Communication: Established in May 2005 by the School, the lab has an area of 70sqm consisting of an experiment room of 40 sqm and an adjacent observation room of 30sqm. It fulfills functions of audio/video recording, editing as well as viewing/listening. As an advanced and pioneer lab of such type among all Chinese business schools, it serves the School with twofold purposes: supporting academic research and facilitating teaching activities. Take MBA managerial communication course as an example: students may use the lab to make business presentations with their performance videotaped. They may scrutinize their own performance after their presentations, and hence make concrete plan of improvement.
Financial Engineering Laboratory: This laboratory is jointly established by Tsinghua SEM and CITIC Securities Co., Ltd. It well utilizes the advantages of the School’s academic strength and CITIC’s market experience and data accumulation. It concentrates on the research and development of China’s financial engineering technology, provides basic research results and tools, and aims to boost the application and development of China’s financial engineering to a new stage.
E-Business Laboratory: E-Business Lab was founded on October 25, 2000 sponsored by Intel, and equipped with three servers, six PCs, two workstations, and various software. At present, courses that utilize this lab include: Management Information Systems; Data, Models and Decisions; Fuzzy Theory and Information Systems; E-commerce; Expert Systems and Decision Support Systems, etc. Each course has a online discussion board, electronic courseware and simulation classes.
Management Information System Laboratory: This laboratory is open for all undergraduate, graduate and MBA students, and executive education participants to study of various computer languages and software, and acquire latest scientific and technological results. The laboratory is also open for experimental teaching sessions in courses and offers supports for the School’s academic projects.
Enterprise Resource Planning Laboratory (ERP Lab): It was co-established by Tsinghua SEM and SAP, a German company, in 1998. SAP provided for this lab its world-class ERP software system-SAP R/3 system. As a widely used ERP system by successful world-class enterprises, SAP R/3 was developed based on a rich reservoir of outstanding industry practices and management experiences. It can be used as an experimental teaching platform for Management Science and Engineering Business Administration and other related disciplines. Since its establishment, this laboratory has introduced corresponding experiments to many courses such as Operation Management, Information System, Enterprise Resource Planning and Accounting Information System. Each year, about 200 students have hands-on classes in this experimental learning environment.
