    Program Introduction
The Master of Finance program at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University leads higher education and educates future leaders of the financial industry. This program endeavors to cultivate application-focused financial professionals with a rigorous knowledge base in economics and finance and global vision to better adapt to rapid changes in the financial market. Professionalism, a strong work ethic, and innovative approach prepare them for work in financial and insurance institutions, advisory bodies, enterprises, and government regulatory institutions.
The Master of Finance program is a full-time study program, and study duration is 2-3 years. The Master of Finance program also has double major programs with HEC Paris, Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley, and Columbia University. Students will have the opportunity to apply to study for a double major at one of these schools.
   Program Characteristics
- Faculty Members from Academia and Finance
Our faculty members include leaders from academia and finance. These include faculty from the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, and professors from universities in the United States and Hong Kong. One third of the courses are taught by financial industry leaders from excellent domestic investment banks, commercial banks, PE and VC firms, and financial regulatory institutions.
- Leveraging Academia and Financial Markets
The SEM arranges an academic advisor and an industry instructor from the financial industry for each student. Academic advisors provide guidance and an academic perspective for the duration of the program. Industrial instructors seek to bridge the gap between education and industry, and address concerns including internship and employment while serving as a mentor.
- Global Vision and Individual Insight
The Master of Finance program currently has three double majors operated in conjunction with HEC Paris, the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley and Columbia University, and participates in over 100 SEM exchange programs with overseas universities.
Our program emphasizes education specific to the needs of each student: we have an international class for students interested in working for transnational corporations and international investment, and concentrations in financial engineering forquantitative analysis, entrepreneurship and corporate finance for innovation and entrepreneurship in buyer-side financial institutions , and insurance and big data finance.
   Training Concentrations
The Master of Finance not only requires a rigorous academic foundation, but also requires professional skills, in order to facilitate integration with financial practice. With this in mind, the Master of Finance has four concentrations and extensive classroom series on financial practice which emphasize both academic training and industry practice. The four concentrations are: international class, financial engineering, entrepreneurship and corporate finance, insurance and big data finance.

   Core Curriculum
The Master of Finance at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University strives to lay a solid foundation of finance, including economic theory, management theory, finance theory and applied finance. This program provides students with a rigorous knowledge base and the option to work with leaders in the financial industry, and inspires students to achieve their individual goals. Course series include ¡°Insight into China¡¯s Pillar Industries¡±, ¡°Financial Practice¡± taught by lecturers from different financial institutions, ¡°Industry Mentor Salon¡± where students can talk face-to-face with industry mentors, and ¡°Tsinghua High-End Financial Forum¡± taught by economic and financial leaders from China and abroad.
Introduction to Finance: theory of economics, theory of finance, theory of management, applied finance
- Corporate Finance
This course explores the financing and investment behavior of enterprises in the modern capital market, familiarizing students with influential articles in financial literature and leading financial research, so as to help students develop a solid knowledge base and analytical skills for financial work. This course systematically introduces modern corporate finance and capital market theory, analyzing complex theoretical models, and introducing the empirical reality of Chinese capital markets and enterprises.
- Financial Derivatives
This course will introduce financial derivatives, including basic theory, pricing, trading practices and hedging methods; and specifically focusing on real-world application, including forwards, swaps, futures, options and a variety of structural products. The lecturers of this course will introduce their years of experience in operations. This course will also emphasize the development, status, and application of the domestic derivatives market, especially the swift development of RMB financial derivatives in recent years.
- Financial Practice Class
This course is an introductory course on finance and financial practice, specifically the operation of various organizations in the financial investment field. Distinguished alumni are invited to interpret the state of the industry, share case analysis and discuss intersection with investment institutions. This course helps students gain a first-hand understanding of financial institutions and the latest investment trends, and prepares them for personal investment work in financial institutions.
- Investment
This course focuses on financial market investment. This course introduces the theory, constraints, and operation of securities investment through analysis of major events and typical cases, and its application in China's securities market operation environment.
- Macroeconomic and Financial Analysis
The purpose of this course is to introduce tools of macroeconomic and financial analysis, and the application of economic and financial analysis in the international economic and financial system. This course includes: macroeconomic analysis, money and banking theory, monetary policy, the international monetary system, exchange rate decision theory, and the global financial crisis. In addition to discussion of basic theory, the course also includes discussion of classic cases and financial affairs.
- McKinsey Course: Global Leadership
This course aims to use the experience of global business leaders to develop students¡¯ leadership skills, especially in enterprise reform, innovation and crisis decision-making. This course will help students understand core business segments, and introduces a knowledge base at the forefront of global business and management practices, specifically analysis and problem solving.
- Quantitative Investment Analysis
This course endeavors to combine quantitative investment theory and investment practice to comprehensively introduce quantitative investment from different perspectives, including model building, strategical development, and actual operation. This course will introduce research in quantitative investment, and also the latest events and trends in the industry. Aside from classroom teaching, this course will also provide opportunities for students to participate in computer-based experiments. Students will improve their knowledge base and practical ability through developing strategy and simulating trade.
- Tsinghua Finance High-End Forum
¡°Tsinghua Finance High-End Forum¡± is hosted by Tsinghua SEM. This forum invites outstanding scholars, government officials and industry elite in financial field to discuss research outcomes, policy trends, corporate practice and operation, and leading-edge topics in finance with Tsinghua faculty and students. The forum aims to build a high-level communication platform in finance and to help students access the latest information, use scientific thinking patterns and methods, and to further the reform and development of finance and financial research in China.
- Venture Capital and Private Equity
This course combines a lecture format with case analysis to introduce venture capital and private equity (VC&PE). It seeks to apply financial theory to solve real-life business problems, including analysis of company performance for entrepreneurs and managers of private capital firms, corporate value assessment, access to multiple channels of financing, negotiation of investment contracts, public listings, mergers and acquisitions.
